Estimate a UPS battery runtime

Use your own battery and load specifications to explore an approximate scenario. For a real UPS, the manufacturer’s model-specific runtime chart is more reliable.

Enter the values and calculate.

What the estimate means

The calculation estimates DC current as load watts divided by bank volts and efficiency. It then uses the entered capacity rating period and exponent in a simplified Peukert equation. The default efficiency and exponent are assumptions, not specifications for a named battery.

Runtime varies with charge, temperature, battery age, inverter behaviour, cutoff and load. This estimate is not a safety limit or a promise that a particular UPS can support the load. Check both the model’s VA and watt ratings and use its tested runtime chart.

For batteries in series, use the bank voltage and the bank’s rated Ah; do not add Ah ratings as if series batteries were parallel. Confirm battery chemistry, pack, connector and servicing instructions with the UPS manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions

Is the UPS runtime a guaranteed result?

No. It is an engineering scenario based on the battery, load and assumptions entered. Use the UPS or battery manufacturer’s model-specific runtime data for real planning.

What specifications should I enter?

Use the battery bank voltage, capacity and rating period, together with the connected load and the other stated assumptions in the calculator.
